Frindleswylde Returns!

Can you feel a tremble in the wind? The sun grows pale. The wild things hide. Frindleswylde is coming!

Since the half term break, Year 4 have been doing a writing unit based on the amazing modern fairytale, ‘Frindleswylde’. In this beautifully written tale, Cora, our main character, has to out-wit the troubled and mischievous icy sprite, who calls himself the King of Winter. She completes three ‘impossible’ challenges, and joins him as the Queen of winter. Eventually, however, she realises that her Granny, who went missing, is under his wicked spell!

Throughout this captivating writing unit, Year 4 undertook a number of brilliant writing tasks. These tasks taught them all about expanded noun phrases with amazing adjectives, using dialogue to advance a narrative while using the correct punctuation, and describing characters.

At the end of the unit, they brought all these skills together to write their own mini-sequel – “Frindleswylde Returns”. They then chose their favourite part to publish. Well done, Year 4!

Now that we’ve finished Frindleswylde, we’ve started a really exciting unit on the Viking fiction book “Riddle of the Runes”. So far, all the pupils are really engaged with the story and have produced some high-quality predictions and character descriptions. More on that to follow soon!
