Girls’ Football Match – Southill vs Chickerell
This week, the girls were in action after school against Chickerell and my word did they put on a show! It was fiercely competitive throughout and the children were all desperate to step onto the pitch and begin the match…
The first half began a little cagey with both teams sizing each other up. The game soon opened up and Southill found themselves taking a 1-0 lead with 5 minutes to go in the first half. Unfortunately, in the closing stages, Chickerell equalized making it 1-1 at half time.
After a quick sip of water and a half time team talk, the girls were ready to put all their nerves to one side and fight for everything in the second half. It was end to end. The confidence of everybody in the team grew as the game progressed. The quality of passing and dribbling, defending and attacking, crossing and tackling significantly improved making it a cracking match to watch! After a crazy 20 minutes of football, the game finished 4-4!
With all things considered, a score draw was probably a fair result as both teams played some magnificent football. Well done, girls. I’m already looking forward to seeing you play in your next match! The teamwork and commitment you demonstrated ended in a fantastic game and a great result against a very difficult opponent.
I’d like to thank Mr. Mason for kindly agreeing to referee once again. Thank you Mr. Frampton for some great action shots of the match. Thank you to all of the parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandads for coming and heartily cheering us on. And finally, thank you to both teams for putting on a fantastic football match!
