Year 4’s learning last half term was all tied together by “Varmints”, a fantastic tale about preserving nature and re-growing a new world. Along the way, our pupils learnt all about the life cycle of flowers and plants, and how to grow their own – they all grew a sweet pea! They then wrote an in depth explanation text on the life cycle of flowers and plants, bringing all the writing skills together that they had learnt over the weeks. They were ALL amazing!
So, what better way to wrap it all up than a DT project building mini greenhouses? The pupils had to learn about all the features required for something to be classed as a greenhouse, and how factors such as concentrated light, warmth, air and space helped the plants to grow inside. They then thought about which materials they could use to make one, and went through an in-depth planning process. Then they got to work making them, and the results were outstanding. All the children showed huge amounts of resourcefulness and resilience the whole time. Maybe your children are now using them to help their sweet-peas to grow inside!
Well done, year 4 – we had so much fun making these with you!

Thank you so much. Ostin had so much fun building his ‘green house’. He has watered his sweet pea all over half term. I haven’t even reminded him & it’s lovely to see him nurture and care for something. Well done year 4
Fantastic. We are using ours 🌱
