Today the children got to have a go at building their very own Hadrian’s Wall. They worked reciprocally in small groups and through discussion of ideas and looking at lots of imagery they started their big build!
But before the build, the children learnt about how the the wall was Roman Emperor, Hadrian’s idea as he believed it was important to build frontiers to defend and secure lands they had, rather than invade and conquer new ones. So, the wall was in fact built as a method of defence. It also demonstrated the Roman Empire’s power and helped the Roman army to control who was allowed to enter Britannia from the north. It took a whopping 6 years to complete the wall (thankfully, it was much quicker building it with duplo in Class 3!).
The children then labelled their models with facts they had learned about Hadrian’s Wall using some very impressive vocabulary!
It was a great afternoon mixing the children’s creativity with History and as you can see from the pictures they got great results from it too!
(Thanks Reception for kindly lending us your building blocks!)
Nice one, Year 3!
