Headteacher blog 6 Dec

Hello everyone!

Hope you have all had a great couple of weeks. I was away last Friday so there’s lots to catch up on …

UK School Travel Awards  We were thrilled to be shortlisted for this national award for our Year 4 residential to London and I was invited to the ceremony in London last Friday. Sadly, we didn’t win – the prize went to a college who took their students to Vietnam – but I felt so proud of Southill Primary and it was great to be recognised as a school who is leading on our commitment to children’s learning and personal development through our programme of trips and residentials.

CBeebies visit  I was in for part of the sessions and I was impressed with the very high-quality learning which was delivered in a very entertaining way – the children had a whale of a time and probably didn’t realise they were learning at all! Thanks for supporting events like these.

Festive Wreath Making  Our resident expert – Mrs Sharpe – will be leading a creative Christmassy morning tomorrow. There are a few tickets left so please contact the office if you’d like to join in. Tea/coffee and warm mince pies available.

Parent Forum  Thank you to everyone who has put themselves forward as parent representatives. I’ll be in touch next week with further details and to make plans for our first meeting.

Southill’s Got Talent – Thursday 12 December   This long-awaited event (postponed from last Summer!) is set to be a spectacular showcase of the extraordinary talents of our amazing children. All funds raised will go towards our Music Studio Project. Come along and be amazed! Tickets available through the FOSS link (on pings sent out previously).

SENCO news  I’m pleased to let you know that we will be getting some SENCO support after Christmas. Sarah Hughes will be working with us for one day per week until we are able to recruit a permanent SENCO at Easter. This post is currently being advertised and there is lots of interest so I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have more news. Thanks for bearing with us and if you have any questions or if there is anything you would have raised with Dawn, please contact me.

Christmas Performances  It’s the most magical time of the year and the children are busy practising for their performances. We are looking forward to sharing them with you.

  • Reception/KS1 Nativity – 2.00pm on Monday 16th December and 9.30am on Tuesday 17th December in our school hall
  • Year 3&4 Christingle – 2.00pm on Wednesday 18th December at Emmanuel Church

First Names Policy Review  Next week, we will be inviting all stakeholders to share their views about our First Names Policy. All opinions will be gathered, collated and analysed and then a report will be shared with everyone in the New Year. I’ll be in touch next week with how you can take part.

Keeping in Touch  My first term as Headteacher has been a joy and a steep learning curve. I am learning so much every day and trying my very best for the children, their families and the staff. I have had lots of correspondence from parents and families this term (both positive and challenging) and I’m genuinely very grateful to you all for taking the time to get in touch with me. It’s lovely to hear when things are going well but equally I need to know when things aren’t so that I can resolve any issues or concerns. I always try to reply to emails as quickly as I can and I very much appreciate your support.

The weather is set to be pretty stormy outside this weekend. I think I’m going to put up my Christmas tree and stay cosy inside. Whatever you get up to this weekend, I hope you all have a wonderful, safe and happy time.

Caroline 🎄
