Dear parents
It seems to have been a long week! We were thrilled to see all our pupils back on Monday and have enjoyed getting to know the new starters. It’s been a happy but tiring week so I hope the children manage to get a good rest over the weekend. It’s going to be a busy term!
The Queen
As you all have, the children and staff have had to deal with last night’s news about the death of the Queen. Staff are conscious of the fact that children will react in many different ways to this sad event, from the oblivious to the deeply upset. The news will be dealt with sensitively in class and individuals supported as necessary. We have messages of condolence on our website and on our social media channels. Children have attended a special assembly this afternoon and I guess we’ll be doing more of these as the funeral arrangements (and coronation arrangements!) become known. We will keep you informed along the way, of course.
Welcome
It’s always an exciting time of the year when so many new people join the school and there are lots of new faces to get to know. I hope you will join with me in wishing all our new starters a happy and enjoyable time at Southill.

But also goodbye…
We are very sorry to say goodbye to two members of our staff:
Sallie Newman has been part of the kitchen team that provides the children with hot meals every day. She also helps supervise all children at lunch to make sure they are eating properly and safely. She’s an important part of the lunchtime team and we will all miss her.
Sadie Symonds is a teaching assistant who also runs our social media channels and in-school graphic design. You will have seen Sadie’s work in school (posters, videos, book and display labels), outside school (all our signs), on the website and social platforms. She has essentially set all this up on her own and from scratch and so will be sorely missed – and probably impossible to replace! She leaves to develop her considerable skills further by working for the NHS. We are sorry to lose her and wish her well in her new post.
Midday Supervisors needed
We are lucky to have a very hard-working and dedicated team of lunchtime supervisors but occasionally they need a bit of help. If you are able to help out every now and again on an ‘as required’ basis, we’d be pleased to add you to our list of casual MSAs. Hours are from 11.45am – 1.15pm. Please let the school office know of your interest and they’ll supply more details.
Other messages for parents and carers
