The Grand Return
What a fabulous week! The children seemed really pleased to be back and have had a wonderful week with their friends and re-engaging with learning all together in class. Their attitude has been been really positive. It’s been brilliant to get back to some sort of normal.
Stormbreak
You will know that, as a school, we are dedicated to building children’s resilience and nurturing their wellbeing and mental health. As part of this commitment to the children in our care, we have joined with the Stormbreak charity to develop this aspect of our wider curriculum.
You will see on some of the class blogs that we have started activities in class this week called ‘Stormbreaks’. These are daily activities designed to improve children’s mental health through movement. The ultimate aim is that, through working with Stormbreak, we are able to equip children with sustainable, transferable skills and coping strategies to thrive during the complex demands of growth into adult life.
For now though, we’re just getting started. What better time could we have chosen for this, than one where children are back together after a long time apart and the coronavirus pandemic is still restricting their lives? We intend our work with Stormbreak to offer optimism and hope for the future as well as useful strategies for dealing with the world in general. As such, it complements our Building Learning Power ethos (resilience, reflectiveness, resourcefulness and reciprocity) that is a feature of so much that we do.
More informations can be found on the website: https://www.stormbreak.org.uk/
Part of our plan is to get parents involved too, so we’ll share more information with you as we get going.

Coats
Please can all children bring a coat to school. We are aiming to get children outside as much as we can but a large number of them, especially our older children, are struggling in the cold and the wet without the right clothing. Please can you make sure your child comes to school with a coat. Thank you.
Good News Board
I am leading two online assemblies each week and would like to carry on the ‘Good News Board’ that we used so successfully in our lockdown assemblies. If your child has anything to celebrate, please send a photo to media@southill.dorset.sch.uk and we’ll share it with the rest of the children during assembly.
Cold or Covid?
Understandably, we’ve had lots of questions this week about children’s health and whether certain symptoms should keep children at home.
To help you decide, we’re re-sharing the flowchart we produced last term. It’s also been returned to the front page of the website. If you’ve read it and still need to ring, please do. The office staff will be happy to help.
From the Chesil Locaility Team
Could you or someone you know help support young people in Dorset who are on the edge of the care system?
The Harbour is a new way to provide services to support young people in need of a home. We are now looking for specialist foster carers to join this new approach.
It combines residential care, foster care, speech and language support, mental health services and the police into a new residential hub.
You may have experience of looking after teenagers, or maybe you are looking for a new rewarding career and enjoy working with young people?
If you have the time, patience and experience to foster a teenager in need, or know someone who could, please get in touch.
Our specialist carers could receive up to £39,000 per annum.
