Hooray we’re doing Hockey!
This half term, the children are learning all about the invasion game hockey. Over the course of this half term, we will be developing the children’s fundamental movement skills and knowledge of the game in order to prepare them for hockey matches in their house teams at the end of the unit.
Today, we focused on how to hold the hockey safely when travelling without the ball. We also developed the art of dribbling using only the flat part of the hockey stick. The children learnt about good posture and how to grip the stick correctly.
We then moved onto the push pass. Children were taught how to pass with accuracy but also how to use the face of the stick to receive a pass. None of the children had played very much hockey before so it was great to see them developing new skills.
