Hopes, Fears and Deepest Desires

Hopes, Fears and Deepest Desires

This half term, we are learning a portal story called ‘The Time-Slip Scarab‘. This story involves a young girl exploring a historical museum with her school, however she is soon transported back into the world of Ancient Egypt. In the story, the author describes the characters cleverly, making it really easy to picture what they all look like.

We continued to build our describing characters toolkit today. We focused on describing a character’s hopes, fears and deepest desires. As inspiration, we watched a clip from ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ where we witnessed Harry entering Platform 9 3/4 through a portal at King’s Cross Station. After watching the clip, we discussed how we could describe Harry’s physical appearance and how his facial expressions and body language shows us what his thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears might be.

The result? Some FANTASTIC pieces of writing. Well done, Year 4.
