As part of our cross-curricular writing lessons, year 3 are going to be using what they have learned from their Geography project ‘Rocks, Relics and Rumbles’ and write their own information text all about how fossils are formed.
In preparation for this, we decided we needed to become experts in knowing how fossils are formed before writing our own information texts. So, after revising their knowledge the children set off into small groups to plan, rehearse and then perform a short drama piece about how fossils are formed. Some children acted the process out, whilst others narrated the process. I was really impressed with how each child took part in this activity, worked excellently as a group and showed great confidence when performing in front of the whole class. They also made a a brilliant and supportive audience when watching other groups perform.
Well done year 3, we thoroughly enjoyed watching each and every one of you perform today and you definitely demonstrated our Stormbreak focus this week of having great ‘self worth’ to believe in yourself enough to perform it!
I can’t wait to read your information texts next week, especially now that you know this process so well. It might be a good idea to practise explaining the process of how a fossil is formed to someone at home so that you are feeling super confident when it comes to your writing next week! 🙂
