Year 6 ventured into the great outdoors this week searching for, cataloging and then classifying the plants and animals they discovered. Secure in the knowledge that the plant and animal kingdoms belong to the ‘domain’ Eurkarya, pupils then had the unenviable task of deciding which ‘phylum’ and ‘class’ the lifeforms they had discovered belonged to!
“Is it a vertebrate?” one perplexed child was heard to say.
“Yes, it’s got a backbone!” came the reply.
“In that case it belongs to the phylum, ‘Chordata’!” another Year 6 naturalist chipped in.
Back in class, reports were written up and then read out to the rest of the class in David Attenborough voices.
