Mad About Multi Skills!

This half term we have had a brillaint time in PE learning all about different skills needed for sport.

Each week we have been looking at the different skills needed to become a great sports person, we have explored a range of different sports including basketball, hockey and tennis and have been putting our new skills into practise.

PE in year 1 is all about mastering basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination. These skills are then practised in lots of different sports and activities to give children a ‘taster’ of lots of different sports which they may not have tried before.

Below you can see a whole gallery of photos of us during our PE lessons this half term. In one of the lessons we were focusing on speed, exploring how speed doesn’t always have to mean FAST! Some sports, such as gymnastics, need you to slow down and be in full control of all of the muscles in your body. Where as other sports, such as sprinting in athletics, is a sport where you need to run as fast as you can for a short amount of time. We had  a great time using our stopwatches and thinking up sport challenges for our partners to complete and time.

Well done year 1 – a great start to the school year and a really fun introduction to lots of different sports and games!
