This weeks blog is all about maths at Southill.
Every maths lesson starts with some number formation practise whilst we get in and settled after break time. We then recap previous learning looking at 4 questions, the aim of this is to consolidate previous learning and improve our retrieval skills.
Throughout the main part of the lesson we use lots of different resources when learning and developing new skills. These manipulatives are there to support understand and help when exploring new concepts. We use a range of resources every day to help children explore maths physically. As we move through the year and throughout Southill school we expect children to become less reliant on these resources and start to draw or link ideas in their heads.
Below you can see some of the different resources that we have been using recently.
Keep up the super math learning Year 1!
