Year 3 have loved Arts Week and have truly had lots of FUN, oozed CREATIVITY and produced some AMAZING art work that they should feel incredibly proud of!
To warm our creative brains up, we started off drawing with our eyes closed, swapping hands and then RIPPING UP a piece of paper (yes really!) and then using the pieces we had ripped up to create a picture. Some of the designs included, boats, pizza, mermaids and even a woolly mammoth! You smashed it, Year 3!
Next, we looked at what mosaics are and found out that they are pictures made from small pieces of colourful stone and many other materials. We were also able to link mosaics to our History project because we found out that mosaics were a luxury to the Romans. We then had a go at making our very own mosaic tiles that we decided could be used as coasters! The children loved this activity and even got to grout the tiles themselves….very impressive!
Next, we looked at the work of famous artist Vincent van Gogh and chose to look more closely at one of his most famous paintings ‘Sunflowers’. The children then had a go at sketching sunflowers before transferring their designs to cardboard. They then used cardboard tiles to create their very own sunflower mosaic but this time using dried seeds and beans! You’ll see from the pictures below that they really took their time and created some incredible sunflower designs.
I am really proud of each and every one of you Year 3 – you have shown great resilience this week and it has been wonderful to see you really develop as artists over the last few days. Well done 🙂
