Mr Mason is away

So welcome to the very first Deputy Head’s news! I’ll do my best to steer the ship in his absence.

Harvest Assembly

Unfortunately we don’t think it is sensible to gather together with parents this year to celebrate Harvest as we usually do.   Rev. Jo is coming to school on Monday afternoon for a special harvest assembly. If you would like to make a donation for the food bank please send it with your child on Monday.

Absence Policy

It is important that you inform the office if your child is going to be late into school or absent. Please let us know before 9.30am on the first day of absence and any subsequent days thereafter. A reason for a period of absence is always required. The school has a duty to ensure that children are kept safe and do not go missing. If no reason is given the school will attempt all contact numbers. If no contact is made by 10.00 am the Dorset Council Attendance Officer and/or the Police may be called.

Collection arrangements

We’ve had a few occasions this week where children have told their teacher that they are going home with someone else and the teacher is not aware. This has put us in some very difficult positions. If your child will be going home with friends/other adults at the end of the day, please let the office know. In order to keep children safe we cannot let a child go home with anyone other than parents unless we have your permission.

Walking across the car park

Safety first – we’d rather not see any parents or children walking across the car park at the start or end of the day. The car park is in use all day, so please stick to the footpaths around school where it’s safer for you and your children. Thank you.

Collecting from Reception Class

When you collect your child from Reception at the end of the day, please take the footpath in front of Humpty’s instead of walking back through the front gates. This will prevent congestion and allow our KS1 teachers to make sure children are getting safely to their parents. Thank you.

Additional closure day

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations fall in the June half term holiday next year. Schools have been granted an additional day’s closure because of this happy national event. Please note in your diaries that Southill will therefore be closed on Friday 27th May 2022 (which is the day before half term).

Morrisons ‘It’s Good to Grow’

We are registered with Morrisons latest gardening scheme for schools so please pass on any vouchers that you or your family receive with your shopping. Thank you.

That’s it from me. It’s been a busy but super week at Southill. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
