Our first look at… The Tempest

Well, what a week Year 3! I can’t believe how much we achieved this week (well actually, I can because you’re all amazing)!

To start the week, the children were introduced to the one and only William Shakespeare’s play THE TEMPEST. We watched some videos to learn the story and then began learning the actions to go with our text map and wow did the children pick it up quickly! I have put a link to our text map in the home learning section to view and practise what we have learnt so far.

On Tuesday we began learning the songs that we will be singing in our performance on the 25th May. I was genuinely so impressed with how quickly the children learnt the songs we practised and the level of enthusiasm they maintained throughout the week. (You are going to LOVE the performance!) I have also put a link to the songs for the children to practise in the home learning section as well (all children should have a copy of the song words to practise from too).

The Tempest didn’t stop there…in our writing lessons the children have been matching definitions to impressive new vocabulary from The Tempest, including words such as ‘betrayed’, ‘responsibility’ and ‘yearns’. They have also been building toolkits to help them write character descriptions of either Propsero, Miranda or Ariel. Next, they blew me away with their setting descriptions, from a character’s point of view, of what it was like to be on board the ship during the violent storm! They even got into small groups and acted out the scene of the characters on board the ship! And finally today, we began building a toolkit of how to write diary entry for Miranda. Some children stood up in front of the class and pretended to be Miranda and shared what her thoughts and feelings might be. Please enjoy a gallery of pictures below:
