Wow! What a brilliant first week back at school we have had.
This week has been full of ‘firsts’ for the children in Year 1 and I am incredibly proud of how well they have taken everything in their stride. We have seen children showing great resilience and resourcefulness coming into class in the mornings and following their new routine. We have seen lots of children being great friends and learning buddies to others in our class helping them to find their phonics packs and showing them where different recourse go. However, most of all, I am really proud of the amount of effort that has been shown throughout the week. Everybody has given all of our activities 110% even though a lot of them were brand new. This is amazing!
This week has been all about settling into Year 1 and back into school life. We have been looking at our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) unit for this half term using the Jigsaw scheme which focuses on children feeling special and safe in school. We have been looking at how we belong to our Year 1 class and our rights and responsibilities as part of a class and the Southill School Community.
We have worked together and created our own learning charter which focuses on how we can support ourselves and our friends in school by ensuring we create a safe learning environment. The Charter was created using our own ideas and we have all signed the Charter to say that we agree to try our best to follow it.
Below you can see lots of photos from different stages of our Jigsaw learning. You will notice our jigsaw piece is with us. His name is Jigsaw Jack. He is an important member of our class who helps us to take turns, stay calm and remember how to create a safe and inviting learning environment for everybody where we can all achieve and be celebrated.
An important part of being back at school is being back with our friends again! This week as we have come into class in the mornings we have settled into some activities together. It has been lovely to see the children playing together happily and having time for myself and Mrs Jones to welcome them in and get to know them. Below you can see us playing with our friends and some of the toys in year 1. You can see below we have also been practising finding our carpet spaces whilst we wait for our ‘bug rug’ to arrive!
A brilliant start to the new school year. Well done Year 1 we are really proud of you all!
