Wow! What a brilliant time we had on our trip to Corfe Castle yesterday!
After much anticipation, we set off on our journey in the morning – full of excitement for the day ahead. Once we arrived in Corfe we made our way to our destination, taking the scenic route along the river which gave us some brilliant views of the castle! After a little break for a snack, we began exploring the fascinating castle ruins.
On our tour, we identified and discussed lots of the features we have been learning about, including: two gatehouses, two baileys, lots of arrow loops, the keep and the motte. We also discussed where the portcullis and drawbridges would have been – two important features that were part of the castle’s defences. We even spotted a trebuchet!
Next, it was time for lunch before heading back to the coach.
We returned to school to share our favourite moments from the day along with all of the interesting new things that we had learnt.
It was wonderful to be able to bring our learning from our ‘Towers, Tunnels and Turrets’ topic to life with this exciting outing and Year 2 represented the school beautifully.
We would also like to say a very big thank you to all of our helpers who accompanied us on the day – we are very grateful!
