Poetry is very popular in Year 6 this week. Following on from our trip to see Michael Rosen on Monday, we were lucky enough to have a visit from well-known children’s poet Rachel Rooney. Rachel read several poems from her books as well as working with Year 6 to create their own poems. We learned about Viking kennings and how to use similes and metaphors effectively in poetry. We even learned how to speak a new language – pig latin. It was a real treat to spend the morning with Rachel and Year 6 and I was impressed with their creativity and imagination. Thanks to children’s charity The Children’s Bookshow, all children in Year 6 will receive their own copy of Rachel’s latest book A Kid in My Class to take home and keep.
