Our Art and Design project this term is called ‘Rain and Sunrays’. The children have been busy making some transitional art using natural objects such as pine cones, pine needles, pebbles, seaweed, twigs and driftwood. They used weather symbols as the basis for these pieces of art and we talked about how nice it would be to have some warm sunshine again! The children loved being able to make multiple pieces and rearrange them time and again. We had a great afternoon full of experimenting and adapting our ideas.
We then moved on to making some collagraphs in order to do some printing. We used various different materials to make the printing blocks and took inspiration from the weather symbols in the previous lessons. Once the printing was complete, we evaluated our prints and talked about which materials were the best to use and which ones we perhaps wouldn’t use again.
