Reading that Inspires Writing – The Viewer
In Book Talk this week, we have been looking at the mesmerising book called The Viewer by Shaun Tan and Gary Crew. The story follows in the footsteps of Tristan, a curious boy who loves wandering off. He loves the dump where other people’s trash becomes Tristan’s treasure. One day, he finds a rather unusual box containing ‘the viewer’.
Bringing it home, he looks through the viewer and amazing imagines suddenly turn into pictures from his worst nightmares! The children were then set the task of thinking about what positive and negative images they might see in the viewer. It was great seeing the children use expanded noun phrases, similes, metaphors and alliteration in order to write impressive pieces of writing.
Well done, Year 5!
