Reading Vipers bookmarks coming home with your child this week
Being able to read is essential for children to be successful in school. At Southill, reading is an integral part of every day. We are passionate about children’s literature and encouraging children to love reading.
We know that children who also read at home do better in school, we see the results of this every day. A little bit of daily reading can make a world of difference to your child’s success at school and in their life. Therefore it is our school policy to ask you to read with your child for at least 10-15 minutes at home every day. We know this isn’t always easy and so to help with this, we have created a bookmark for each child containing some useful questions you could ask to deepen their understanding and ultimately aid their progress. Entitled Reading Vipers, each section has a different purpose – Vocabulary, Inference, Predict, Explain, Retrieval and Sequence(KS1) / Summarise (KS2).
Reading should be fun and an enjoyable experience. We hope that these bookmarks will prove useful. Staff are always at hand should you have any questions or need any extra support.
Many thanks and happy reading!
