A crack team of Year 4 rounders players took part in the local area rounders tournament today. The event was organised by Budmouth and their Year 10 Sports Leaders who not only ran the games, umpired them and kept score, they also coached and supported our teams. They were ace!
Our team performed tremendously well in difficult conditions in the heat of a Budmouth afternoon, fielding with flair and batting with brilliance.
We improved as a team as the tournament wore on and, after our three games, found ourselves tying with the other teams as we all had the same results – 1 game lost and 2 games won. The Year 10 students huddled together and eventually the result was announced that Chickerell were the winners, and Southill runners-up. We were a tad disappointed with this, as we had beaten Chickerell earlier in the day, but we took it on the chin and applauded the victors. I felt this reflected the attitude of the team throughout – they were there to compete but also to have fun and they played with a great sporting spirit all afternoon. They were a pleasure to spend the afternoon with. Top work, the rounders team!
