Retro Games

In Computing this half term, we have been developing our ability to code using the programme Scratch. So far, we have developed our ability to animate, repeat instructions, change the costume of the Sprite and change the background. The reason why we are doing this is because we will be attempting to create our very own online game using classic arcade games for inspiration. To help the children to decide what kind of game they wish to create, they conducted some very thorough research this afternoon…THEY GOT TO PLAY SOME AWESOME GAMES! Children played on classics such as:

-Space Invaders

-Tetris

-Snake

-Pong 

-Pacman

Throughout the afternoon, the children were questioned on what has been animated, what acted as the sprite, what code had been written to make things react in a game and costume/background changes. Over the final few computing sessions (using online tutorial videos) the children will attempt to create a similar game to one of the classics that they played this afternoon.
