Shields at the READY!
In preparation for our battle on the top field, children have been making Viking shields. We have learnt that the Vikings used round shields with a metal boss in the middle of it in order to protect their hand. They also painted patterns and striking colours in an attempt to spread fear and intimidate the enemy before the battle starts.
First of all, children designed their Viking shields in their sketch books. They were asked to make it look authentic, thinking carefully about the pattern and colours they were selecting. They then chose their favourite design and used this in order to create their own shield.
Next up…weapons!
