What an awesome day we’ve had visiting Lulworth Cove to experience the geographical features of the coastline. Derek, our guide, told us so many facinating facts. We’ve learnt the five types of rock that make up the Jurasic coastline and how they form a sandwich – now known as the ‘Southill Soft Rock Sandwich’. The significance of Lulworth Cove as a World Heritage Site because of the fosils found along the coast. We looked at coastal erosion in action and saw caves, arches and blow holes. We drew and labelled these features. We had a lovely picnic in the sunshine then went to the beach to look for fossils and do a scavenger hunt. We had some great finds on the beach including 145 million year old fosilised wood. All of the children behaved so well with courtesy and respect for the environment and other visitors at the cove. We received lots of positive comments from Derek and members of the public – well done Year 2. Finally, a huge thanks to the staff and helpers who supported our trip today.
