Southill vs Chickerell
It was the return of football for the boys team this Friday as Southill faced against Chickerell.
Some of the boys have never played for the team before so we got off to a nervy start shipping three goals in the first 10 minutes. However, for the rest of the first half, Chickerell were pinned back and we were forcing them back. We came close on a number of occasions, kept it tight at the back and we were optimistic that we could continue this pressure into the second half.
Early in the second half, a shove in the back resulted in an early penalty to Southill which was dispatched confidently. 1-3 and Chickerell looked nervous. We held our own in the second half, again, creating many chances, however their keeper stood firm in goal. Later on into the game, Chickerell were able to score on the counter attack and then scored two late goals making the final score 6-1.
I am so unbelievably proud of the team today. They played with grit, desire and not once did I see anybody lower their heads and stop playing for the team. They all left the pitch feeling proud of the way they played. On another day, the game would have been an awful lot closer.
The player of the match award went to Cody for his determination, calmness on the ball and his adaptability to play in a number of positions to help the team.
Well played boys, enjoy your weekend and c’mon England!
