Y5 NSPCC Workshop: Speak Out, Stay Safe
This morning, Year 5 took part in the NSPCC’s important workshop, Speak Out, Stay Safe. The session was engaging and thought-provoking, with a special introduction from none other than Ant and Dec! They introduced us to Buddy, a friendly speech bubble who symbolizes the importance of speaking out when something doesn’t feel right.
The workshop covered different types of abuse that
children may face, including cyberbullying, neglect, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. The key message was clear: if you ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable, it’s vital to talk to a trusted adult. Whether it’s a parent, teacher, or another responsible person, sharing worries can help lighten the burden and lead to support and solutions.
During the session, children explored real-life scenarios and discussed how they would respond. They considered what type of abuse might be occurring in each situation and what actions they could take. It was incredibly inspiring to see the maturity and thoughtfulness in their responses. The children demonstrated an impressive understanding of the importance of speaking out and supporting one another.
A huge thank you to Sharon from the NSPCC for leading such a valuable and engaging workshop. The knowledge and skills the children gained today will help them feel more confident in recognising and responding to unsafe situations.
Parents, we encourage you to continue this conversation at home—ask your child what they learned and reinforce the message that they can always speak out and stay safe!
