Sports Afternoons
After a long absence, it was the return of sports afternoons and we were delighted to be able to welcome parents and grandparents, older siblings and members of the Southill community back into school in order to watch the action unfold.
We began on Tuesday with the Reception, Year One and Year Two’s Sports Afternoon and we were treated to an awesome spectacle. The children all participated in a range of traditional (and not so traditional) sporting challenges in their teams. Considering this was their very first sports event, I think they handled the occasion unbelievably well considering the amount of adults who were watching them. Lots of smiles, teamwork and encouragement throughout equaled a memorable afternoon for all.
For the older children, we wanted to make it more competitive. Rather than them doing all of the activities as we have done in the past, children chose the events that they wanted to compete in to try and earn points for their team. This is what athletics is all about. Identifying your strengths and doing your very best for the team. It also gave the children a chance to support and cheer on their teammates which was great to see. Two fantastic afternoons filled with incredible moments.
After the scores were counted and verified, here were the three winners at the end of the three afternoons:
KS1 Sports Afternoon Winners – Dragon
Year 3/4 Sports Afternoon Winners– Griffin
Years 5/6 Sports Afternoon Winners- Pegasus
A huge thank you to every member of staff who has helped set up the events and ensure all children had a great time. Thank you to our Bronze Ambassadors who have ensured the afternoons ran smoothly. Thank you to every parent and grandparent who cheered the children over the finish lines. Thank you to Mr. Frampton and Mr. Sanderson who very kindly took some fantastic photos and videos of the afternoons. Finally, a huge thank you to all of the children at Southill who treated us to three excellent afternoons of sport.
