St Ives Day Three

Amazing, energising, exhilarating, thrilling… these are all words Year 6 have used to describe today!

First up was our surfing lesson with St  Ives Surf School on Porthmeor Beach. After getting kitted out in wetsuits and rash vests, we made our way towards the shore to play some team games and discussed how to stay safe whilst in the water. We then learnt how to paddle in the waves and how to stand up on a surf board. After a few practices, we made our way to the (wavy!) water. The children had an amazing time and showed excellent resilience and perseverance as they tackled the waves! We are so proud of them.

We stayed on the beach for the afternoon to play some games and had a go at body boarding (unfortunately our coasteering and paddle boarding session was cancelled due to the wind). The body boarding was a huge success! The children absolutely loved catching the waves and some even said it has been the highlight of their trip so far! We ended our day on the beach with a delicious ice cream.

As I write this, the children are currently listening to sea shanties which are being performed by a local singer, Nicole, before they get ready to go to bed! What a day!

Shame about the wind cancelling the afternoon activities, but body boarding and games sound fun too! They must be exhausted, hope they’ve slept well!
