On Wednesday afternoon in Year 2 we decided to enjoy the sunshine and take part in a Stormbreak session outside. Every week we enjoy two Stormbreak activities. As a whole school we have a different theme every week – this week is self worth. We discussed as a class what self worth meant to us, and the children gave some excellent examples such as: ‘feeling good about myself after finishing my maths’ and ‘looking after our body makes us feel good.’ We watched a short animation to help us further understand the concept of self worth.
We chose the Stormbreak activity Cloud Faces.
Our first job was to lie or sit on the grass and look up at the clouds. Could we see any shapes? Next we looked at the clouds to see if we could spot any faces. We discussed whether they looked happy, sad, or cross.
After that we got into pairs and drew on our friend’s hand or back. We had to draw faces with different emotions and our friend had to guess what we drew. It was good fun!
Finally, Miss Knight called out an emotion, and the children had to do an action or pose to represent this.
The children were brilliant at this!
We decided to enjoy the sun for a little longer and have a play on the top playground. Lots of the children were feeling brave and gave the monkey bars a go. It was wonderful to see the children cheering for their friends, and describing how proud they felt when they could do it. What a lovely afternoon! Well done, Year 2!
