Super Sumer Inventions

This term, the children are learning all about Ancient Civilisations. We began by learning about what a civilisation is. The children then learnt about a useful acrostic which helps to identify what key features help to create a thriving civilisation:

Vital water supplies

Information

Leadership

Infrastructure

Social hierarchy

Arts and culture

Trade

Individuals

Organised religion

Nutrition

We then looked at some of the oldest civilisations that we know of: Ancient Sumer, Indus Valley and Ancient Egypt. The children are focusing on Ancient Sumer to begin with and they looked at interesting inventions that helped the people prosper. The children really enjoyed being historians and researching historical sources of information in order to find out about Sumerian inventions.
