Sutton HOO!?

Sutton HOO!?

We are really delving deep into our Invasion topic this week as we began to learn about the infamous Sutton Hoo ship burial. We learnt that archaeologists found the imprint of a decayed Anglo-Saxon wooden ship filled with precious artefacts.

Although the body had rotted away, the treasures were still there to see! From helmets to swords, silver bowls to belt buckles, it was filled with precious treasures. The reason for this is that the believed they would take these with them into the afterlife. We also learnt that only kings or extremely wealthy people were buried in this way.

After listening to a history podcast about Sutton Hoo, the children then had to answer a wide range of historical questions on Google Classroom. Like the truly great historians that they are, the children gathered evidence using the podcast, looked in books and searched online for sources of information to help them solve the problems.

A great afternoon!

I loved learning about the Sutton Hoo! It was so fun and I learned something new! I learned that the kings or Bretwaldas would have a very special burial just for them. I also learnt that people buried the important citizens with their possessions because they believed the items they got buried with would be useful in the afterlife. WOW!!!
