Ted Harrison and dragon machines!

Our classroom text is ‘The Dragon Machine’s by Helen Ward. In the book, the main character builds a dragon machine. We have taken inspiration from this to help us in our writing. The children have made dragon encyclopedias, they designed their own dragon machine and today, they’ve written a passage to describe it flying across the sky. Here are some of the excellent examples – I could honestly have chosen anyone’s, they were all fab!

We have really enjoyed learning about Ted Harrison and his art over the past couple of weeks. Today, the children finished their paintings which were mixed media, and inspired by his famous landscape paintings. The children worked in pairs to create these. It’s a big ask to expect 6/7 year olds to work collaboratively on a painting as everyone has their own ideas. However, the children did brilliantly and we saw lots of reciprocity and compromise going on. We were so pleased with the outcome and will find somewhere to display them soon.
