Over the past few weeks we have been learning that a subjective point of view is someone’s view or opinion of what they saw or witnessed. It’s not right or wrong, it is what they saw.
We looked at and studied two subjective points of view of the birth of Jesus from books of Luke and Matthew in the bible. Surprisingly, there were lots of similarities and difference in the two versions. Here are some interesting things we found out-
Matthew’s version mentions ‘men, who studied the stars, came from the East’, visiting Jesus in a house. There was no mention of the 3 wise men or kings!
Luke’s version tells about shepherds finding Jesus in a manger.
The Christmas story we hear year on year, merges the two versions of the story. We concluded that even though both version were different, it didn’t impact on the meaning of Christmas for us. We thought about the underlying meaning of Christmas and shared our thoughts.
Rev’d Matt visited us today to share his wealth of knowledge about Christmas and answered some of our thoughtful questions. We have learnt lots and a huge thanks you to him for his wonderful answers.
Thank you Year 5 for inviting me. You had some brilliant questions and it was lovely to hear how you have been learning all about the Christmas story.
