This Week in Year 1

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in Year 1 as we dive into our nativity rehearsals. The singing is sounding amazing and we are really looking forward to showing our production to you. Please send items for costumes into school early next week ready for our dress rehearsal to the rest of the school next Friday.

Phonics

This week we have been revising all the new sounds and tricky words we have introduced over the past five weeks.

Last week we have introduced these new graphemes:

e-e (these), ew (chew/new), ie, (shield), aw (claw)

Please help your child recognise these graphemes (split digraphs) in words and sound and blend to read words containing these graphemes.

Maths

We have continued our learning on addition and subtraction and come to the end of this unit of work for this term. Next week we will start looking at 3D and 2D shapes. Perhaps you could go for a shape walk and identify real life examples of 3D and 2D shapes.

Please continue to practise number pairs to ten and also ‘one more / one less’ with numbers to ten.

10 + 0

9 + 1

8 + 2

7 + 3

6 + 4

5 + 5

All children have accounts on NumBots so please encourage them to login and practise their number recall skills.

Many thanks, Year 1 Team.
