Year 5 have been learning about databases over the past few weeks. We have made and sorted data on animals using paper databases. Then we compared the speed and accuracy using a computer database. This week we have been combining grouping and sorting data about different countries to answer specific questions such as
●Which Spanish-speaking country has the largest population?
●Which Chinese-speaking country has the smallest population?
●Which country using the Euro currency has the smallest area?
We are getting good at answering these questions especially as the database is on the computer. Paper files of the same data would take a lot longer to sort!
Next week we are going learn about how to use ‘AND’ and ‘OR’ to refine data selection. Watch this space!
