Traders and Raiders Trip

Traders and Raiders Trip

Today, a tribe of angry Vikings descended upon New Barn Field Centre for a trip of a lifetime. Our invasion did not last long however as we were graciously greeted by the New Barn team and welcomed onto their land.

We started by learning all about when the Vikings first invaded Angl0-Saxon shores and we even went into a Viking longhouse. It was fascinating learning about how longhouses were built and how Vikings used everything they hunted (even toenails to make glue).

Children were expected to work during the Viking era and therefore that’s exactly what was expected of the Southill Clan. We grinded grain to make flour (which was extremely hard work, curdled milk in order to make butter and turned vegetation into a healthy remedy in order to cure bruises and cuts.

After a swift bite to eat, we then learnt about Viking weaponry and even had the chance to write messages in Norse using chalk and carving tools.

A truly terrific trip and the children left with an abundance of fascinating facts and great experiences to remember.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Wallis and Mrs. Murray who very kindly helped on our trip today. Have a great weekend!
