We are all readers!

This week, we have had lots of fun celebrating book week! We have enjoyed visiting the library during lunchtimes to hear the ‘mystery reader’ of the day share a story and created some fantastic book characters using lolly sticks.

Yesterday was filled with exciting activities to mark World Book Day. During the day, we met the children’s author Simon Philip. It was a brilliant opportunity to hear Simon share some of his stories and inspire us with his passion for reading and writing.  Later in the morning, we participated in a virtual interactive workshop with another author, Eileen Browne. She also shared some stories and invited us to join in by putting different actions to music which was lots of fun! At the end of the day, we were even lucky enough to take home a cookie to enjoy while Mrs Wood shared a bedtime story.

We are all readers here in Year 2, take a look at some of the books we are currently reading…

In Geography this week, we have focused on a different type of reading – map reading! We began our new topic ‘Coastline’ by spending some time exploring atlases, world maps and a globe to name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans. Later, we went on to name and locate the oceans/seas surrounding the UK and its four countries. You were focused and reciprocal learners Year 2 – a great start to our topic!

In other news, in Maths this week we were set the task of exploring different ways to sort 2D shapes based on our learning about their properties. We came up with lots of different approaches, organising the shapes by their name, number of sides/vertices and whether or not they were symmetrical. Here are some of our ideas…

A fantastic first week back, well done Year 2! Have a lovely weekend everybody.
