We are MAD about Maths!
This morning saw Year 4 participate in their first official ‘proper’ maths lesson in Year 4…We began with some arithmetic questions swiftly following by a problem solving activity on the board. It required the children to spot the mistake Amir had made. The children discussed the problem in their table groups and grabbed resources from the maths trolley in order to prove to Amir where he went wrong and what in fact the correct answer would be and why.
From dienes to place value discs, pictorial representations to part-part-whole diagrams, the children were able to confidently rise to the challenge in order to support Amir with his learning.
After using the resources, the children then recorder their findings in their journals in order to demonstrate their understanding of the place value question. Some children even unlocked another maths challenge! We then explored some similar problems in preparation for tomorrow’s maths lesson.
A cracking start and I cannot wait to see what the children produce tomorrow. Well done, Year 4!
