We are now FAB at Fractions!

It is safe to say that at the beginning of our unit on fractions, the children weren’t even entirely sure what a fraction even was! After weeks of hard work, concentration and gritted teeth, Year 4 are now experts! We have learnt all about…

-What is a fraction

-What we call the top and bottom of a fraction

-Adding and subtracting fractions

-Fractions on a number line

-Equivalent fractions

-Converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions.

At the beginning of the unit, many of the children scored quite low on their initial assessment, however at the end of the unit we saw so many children scoring 12, 13, 14 and even 15 out of 15 which is staggering. We are now learning about decimals and the children have been tackling it with a new-found confidence as they have soon realised that they can use their knowledge of place value and fractions to help them.

I cannot wait to see how much the children can push themselves over the next few weeks as they learn about the delights of decimals!
