We are TERRIFIC at Tag Rugby
On Thursday 7th November, 11 children from year 4 ventured over to Dorchester to participate in a tag rugby competition. After a swift journey over, we began by playing some fun games as a group before participating in some fun skills and drills with the other teams at the tournament.
After getting to grips with the rules of the game, we then participated in 5 matches across the rest of the day. Here is how the mighty SPS got on:
Game 1 – Southill 6 – 1 Cerne Abbas CE first
Try scorers- Elsie (2), Wills (2), Jacob (1) and Ronnie (1)
Game 2 Southill 8-0 St Mary’s (B team)
Try scorers- Jacob (4), Ronnie (3) and Delilah (1)
Game 3- Southill 4-0 St Mary’s (A team)
Connie (2) and Darcie (2)
Game 4 – Southill 3 – 1 Manor Park
Ronnie (3)
Game 5- Southill 5-0 Sunninghill Prep
Ostin (1), Connie (1), Ronnie (1), Wills (1) and Mae (1)
That’s right…Southill won every single game, scored a staggering 26 tries and only conceded two tries all day! They were INCREDIBLE. A number of coaches and sports leaders commented on the ability, teamwork and determination of Southill students and I am so unbelievably proud of them. They represented the school magnificently.
If they are desperate to play even more rugby outside of school, both Weymouth and Dorchester rugby clubs are always looking for more to join their ranks. I would love it if today inspired even just one child to join a rugby club outside of school.
A huge thank you to parents and grandparents for making the journey over the Dorchester to collect the kids today. I hope they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
