We had a BLAST in Bristol at We the Curious!

What. An. Incredible. Day!

Year 5 were up bright and early ready and raring to board the coach to Bristol in order to visit ‘We the Curious Science Centre’. After a very smooth journey, we had the opportunity to store our bags, visit the toilet and then EXPLORE! Two floors of interactive, engaging, hands-on activities for the children to enjoy. We walked through tornadoes, listened to music by biting a straw and even talked and interacted with AI robots. We learnt how to use stop-motion animation, danced in slow-motion, tested our reactions, milked cows, launched parachutes, created music, identified suspects through a facial recognition programme and discovered whether or not we possessed a soul. You name it, the children have done it.

At 12.00pm, it was time to visit the Planetarium. We received 3D glasses and were blown away at the incredible size and scale of space. We learnt about how planets are different to moons and it was fascinating to find out that Pluto even has a moon called Sharon!?

The children then had their lunch and, feeling energised, ventured upstairs to take part in a workshop called ‘Earth, Sun and Moon’. The children blew Charlie (our instructor) away with their fabulous facts about space and the workshop was so engaging and thought-provoking. Charlie even demonstrated a rocket explosion. We then had one final play in the science centre before the children then visited the shop to spend their pennies on trinkets and treasures.

I cannot stress just how proud I am of the children. They were simply impeccable. They respected members of the public, showed patience and enthusiasm and were an absolute privilege to take on the trip. I would also like to wish Toby a really happy birthday and thank you for the lovely birthday cake.

A massive thank you to Mrs. Murray, Mrs. Sharpe and Emma for supervising the children and for making the experience even more memorable.

Enjoy the photos…

Tom
