We had an absolutely WICKED time at Wey Valley Academy!
This afternoon, 10 enthusiastic Year 6 pupils were selected to attend a sports morning at Wey Valley Academy. The aim of the event was to foster social connections with pupils from other schools through physical activity, demonstrate leadership skills, build resilience, work collaboratively as a team, and show true sportsmanship.
The session kicked off with some high-energy warm-up activities. The children had to respond quickly and confidently to verbal instructions, and they absolutely smashed it! Following the warm-up, we moved on to Benchball, competing against three other schools. Southill came in strong, adapting to the game swiftly, thinking strategically, and working seamlessly as a team to secure victory in their matches.
After a quick water break, the children had the exciting opportunity to choose between a football training session on the 3G pitches or a netball workshop inside the sports hall. It was fantastic to see them engaging with the sport they felt most confident in, bringing passion and skill to their respective teams. Their enthusiasm and determination were truly inspiring!
Following a well-earned lunch, it was time to pump some iron! That’s right—our pupils had the incredible opportunity to use the gym. Stuart Heath guided them through proper gym etiquette, explaining how to use the equipment safely and effectively. He discussed the ideal number of reps for strength training and the recommended time for endurance machines like the treadmill, cross-trainer, and rowing machine. This was undoubtedly a highlight of the day! The children loved exploring the gym, challenging one another, and cheering each other on as they tackled different pieces of apparatus.
It was an absolute pleasure to accompany them today, and I hope they had an unforgettable experience. A huge thank you to our wonderful parents for ensuring the children arrived at Wey Valley, and an even bigger thank you to Stuart and the fantastic sports leaders at WV for making the day such a success!
Until next time—keep up the teamwork and sportsmanship, Southill!
