To begin our maths learning this year, we have been recapping, revisiting and extending our knowledge about Place Value – the value of each digit within a number. For example, we can tell you the 5 in 350 represents 5 tens, or 50. However, the 5 in 5,006 represents 5 thousands, or 5,000. We can even tell you that the 5 in 456,982 represents 5 ten thousands, or 50 thousand. And if that didn’t impress you enough, we can even tell you that the 5 in 5,876,901 represents 5 million!
It has been brilliant this week to extend our learning with numbers from ten thousands up to 1 million and really understand the value of all digits in a 6 or 7 digit number.
We have also been using our new resources boxes to help us and today we used counters on a place value chart to really visualise which values make up a complete number.
Fantastic resourceful learning year 5, well done!
Well done Year 5!
