We have had a fantastic first week back in Year 5!  We are so proud of everyone for getting straight back in to our usual high levels of focus and learning, well done!

We started off with a brilliant PSHE day looking at different jobs, rating their importance and thinking about values of roles in everyday life.

We have also kickstarted our new English Unit looking at The Canal, a Warning Tale and have absolutely smashed learning the Model Text!  Keep your eyes peeled for the video soon…

Word problems are the theme of the week in Maths and we have really enjoyed getting our heads round solving steps of calculations to answer a question, including the use of bar models to support our learning.

And finally, our new topic Scream Machine did in fact kick off with some screams!  We had a virtual ride on a roller-coaster to get a feel for the movement, direction and forces involved in making a ride work.  We then explored centrifugal and centripetal forces in more depth by looking at the circular motion of a bucket of water and testing different variables to see if we could affect the water’s staying power.
