Welcome to Year 3!

We had a great time with the children, even though I (Andrea) have been teaching them since October! We feel it was important for us to spend time together in what will be our new classroom in September and to discuss the expectations for year 3. The children thought about what their goals are going to be in year 3, the new class charter, they made new peg labels, birthday displays and bookmarks. They also had a look at their new cloakrooms and toilets within unit 2 and met Matt Ryan who is very excited to be joining the year 3 team too!

The first day back in the Autumn term is Thursday 5th September. Registration time for all classes is 8.45-8.55am. On the first day back, teaching staff will be in Unit 2 ready to greet children as they arrive and to support where necessary. After this, we encourage children to come in on their own so please drop them off in the playground and allow them to enter by themselves. Staff will be at hand to help.

Teaching staff arrangements for September will be as follows:

  • Reception: Mrs Puddick, Mrs Kench and Mrs Walkinshaw
  • Year 1: Mrs Clark (+ teacher tbc) and Mrs Harris
  • Year 2: Emily England and Emily Jones
  • Year 3: Andrea Warner-Lee and Matt Ryan
  • Year 4: Dan Bell, Matt Ryan and Sue Aitken
  • Year 5: Tom Prior and Mrs Murray
  • Year 6: Hayley Savage, Mrs Wallis and Kelly Harris

What will it be like in Year 3?

As in every other class, we have very high expectations of behaviour. Year 3 children will be expected to set a good example to the younger children in the school, especially times when the whole school is together, and they will be expected to demonstrate the school values in everything they do.
They will continue to be encouraged to take small steps to become more independent with their school work and to problem solve situations before asking for help.
We have lots of exciting topics to learn in Year 3 from History through the ages, Rocks, Relics and Rumbles, the skeletal system as well as fantastic contrast and complement art projects and learning about Ammonites – and this is only a few of the topics!
For Autumn term we also have Leeson House to look forward to and a visit to Stonehenge – more details to follow before the summer holiday!

Reading and Maths

Our guided reading sessions start after the register each morning and so it’s important that your child is here on time and has their reading book and Reading Record with them every day.

Please try to read as much and as often as you can with your child over the summer holiday, it really does make a huge difference to their success at school. The Summer Reading Challenge is running again via local libraries and is a really great way to help keep your child interested in reading over the holiday. TT Rock Stars is a great way for children to recall their times table facts quickly. There is also Hit The Button which can be googled and free to play online. The children have played and enjoyed it in year 2 already and so should be used to the format.

How do I pass on important information?

If you have any questions or concerns at any time we do hope that you will get in touch, just as we will contact you if necessary. There are regular opportunities to meet and discuss your child’s progress throughout the year, in addition to this you can email us at:

Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to a really great year together in Year 3!
