On Monday lunchtime we had our very first gathering of the brand new Southill Primary Wellbeing Wizards. This group have come together to learn about ways to look after their own mental health and how they might be able to help their friends and classmates.
During our first session we thought about self-care. Self-care is all about what you can do to help yourself feel better or to keep yourself feeling good. It’s a way we can look after our own mental health and wellbeing. It can help your body and mind to relax, drift away or be more energised.
We discussed lots of different ways we could try self-care and the Wizards had lots of ideas: singing, swimming, running, fishing origami, riding your bike, reading, walking the dog, sleeping, playing games, karate, jiu jitsu, horse riding, cooking, netball and watching the weather especially a storm (which is handy this week!)
Dancing is a really great form of self-care. The combination of uplifting music and physical activity triggers a positive response in the body. We talked about our favourite tunes to dance to and we listened to some together. Each Wizard made their own list of songs that bring them joy and makes them want to move their feet. We have compiled this into a Spotify playlist and Mr Mason says he will play it in the mornings when everyone is arriving for school! So listen out for our top tunes and maybe have a little dance as you come to school in the mornings – it’ll help to ensure you have a brilliant day!
Love this! Intrigued by the Spotify list!
