What Drama!
Today, we delved deeper into a more complex character in our Tempest tale. We began looking at Caliban, a slave monster who once lived in peace and prosperity on the island. However, his position on the island changed after the arrival of the magician, Prospero.
We explored a monologue, written by Shakespeare, from the viewpoint of Caliban. The monologue reveals his anger and frustration and how sinister thoughts begin to creep into his head. After watching the monologue performed by Mr. Michael Rosen, the children worked in groups in order to perform this piece of Shakespeare writing. The children soon got into character and it was great seeing children thinking about their facial expressions, body language, volume and intonation when practicing.
The children are really enjoying our work on ‘The Tempest’ and I cannot wait to see the children performing this on the stage in a few weeks time…
