What Makes YOU Smile?

We’ve found a fantastic project by The Children’s Bookshow and would love to share it with you all. Here at Southill we are all about positivity, however during these unusual times and what has turned out to be a strange year for us all with much restriction, change and uncertainty – it’s easy to find yourself feeling a little bit blue and often more of a challenge to be a 2%er and to keep smiling no matter how hard we try. However, this heart-warming project has really done the trick, it’s made us smile so with a little help of the ripple effect (how many of you can remember what this is?) we’d like to pass this feeling on …

The Children’s Bookshow have asked ten of the best, prize-winning children’s book illustrators from around the world to illustrate what makes them smile.  Each day they have posted a new picture, below you will find a few that are available so far:

François Place is one of France’s best loved children’s authors, he painted this watercolour of his home in Paris.  This is obviously a place which makes him smile.

Mikel Valverde is a prize-winning writer and illustrator who lives in Spain.  Can you tell what might make him smile?  I think a few of us might share the same passion ….

Viviane Schwarz is a writer of humorous picture books, she must be 2%er – always looking on the bright side.  How do her words influence you?  Having a positive attitude must make Viviane smile.  Does this work for you too?

Ulla Saar is an illustrator who lives in Estonia, in a wooden house with her family and her cat.  She obviously has a love for animals, which make her smile.  Do animals make you feel this way too?

You’ll find more pictures and info about the project over on The Children’s Bookshow website including a very exciting COMPETITION with great prizes to be won!  If you’d like to get involved please take a look, give it your best shot and we wish you lots of luck!

We would however like to take the opportunity to get involved with this project at school, especially given the fact that we are unable to meet as a whole school at present. Projects like these really help to strengthen our school community, therefore we would just love to join in by creating a picture of what makes YOU happy.  You can get busy with these at home, during wet play or golden time at school or any other suitable moments during the day.  Completed drawings can be handed to class teachers or ideally emailed over to us at media@southill.dorset.sch.uk where we will display them on our social media channels (look out for staff drawings too!)

We do hope to see many colourful creations and to be able to share what makes you all happy.  Who knows, you might just make somebody else’s day by sharing a smile (or two).
